Orthopaedic drugs, sometimes known as orthopedic surgery, is a branch of medicine that deals with maintaining and regaining the function of the skeletal system and the structures that are connected to it, such as the muscles, joints, and bones in the spine and other bones.

The French physician Nicolas Andry de Bois-Regard coined the name “orthopédie” in 1741. The book included an etching of a crooked tree that was braced with a post and rope, which later came to represent the field. In the subsequent decades, Jean André Venel created an establishment in Switzerland to treat the skeletal malformations of deformed children, launching the field of orthopedics. In the 19th century, our understanding of how muscles work and how bones grow and develop has greatly advanced.
